Senior Specialist-Health and Safety

The primary function of theSenior Specialist-Health and Safetyis to implement, manage and support the Best Buy Health and Safety Management System. Working closely with the Distribution Centres, Geek Squad City (Service Depot) and Stores, this individual must demonstrate subject matter expertise and leadership skills to drive continual improvement within the OHS function in their region.

As a Senior Specialist-Health and Safety you will…

  • Identify, monitor, evaluate and track all OHS activities in the region through audits and other record keeping methods.
  • Lead the continuous improvement process to ensure OHS compliance.
  • Hold leadership and key stakeholders accountable to following OHS procedures in a manner that safeguards workers and the shopping/working environment.
  • Lead the full investigation on major accidents and incidents.
  • Utilize technical knowledge to identify and address workplace risks and hazards.
  • Execute appropriate training to reduce hazards and the potential for accidents in the workplace.
  • Work with the Senior Manager to ensure that training programs are complaint to the provincial OHS regulations of the region
  • Provide OHS knowledge, expertise and guidance to employees and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor regional performance data (injury statistics, lost time statistics, return to work efficiency etc.) and work with Senior Manager to implement strategies to improve performance.
  • Analyze performance data to identify links between claims and associated costs to develop appropriate actions plan to reduce cost.
  • Participate and provide input in the development of SOPs, Safe Work Procedures and other OHS documentation
  • Keep up to date on changing provincial OHS regulations in the region that can impact operations.
  • Stay up-to date on industry standards and H&S technologies/methodologies through established relationships with key vendors, industry professional organizations etc.
  • Be the key company representative with Labour and Health authorities for all OHS related activities.
  • Lead all activities related to the organization’s participation in provincial certification/rebate programs e.g., BC COR, ON HSEP

The experience we need…

  • 3+ years of OHS/EHS or relevant experience (Retail and/or Warehousing experience is an asset)
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field (Occupational Health, Pure Sciences/Engineering, Human Resources etc.)
  • Professional designation (CRSP/CRST/CHSC/CSO/CPHR) is an asset.
