As a Respiratory Therapist you will be responsible for the successful implementation of the QNRG+ Indirect Calorimetry (IC) device in the various hospitals across Canada. You will need work collaboratively with the Nutrition Sales and Marketing teams in addressing any customer questions or inquiries related to the QNRG+. Furthermore, you will provide training and education to Dieticians, Respiratory Therapists and Physicians on the use of the QNRG+ in a clinical setting for both ventilated and spontaneously breathing individuals. In addition, you will provide objective measurements for clinicians to accurately assess nutritional support through the determination of a patient’s energy requirements over the course of a critical illness. Lastly, another essential role of the respiratory therapist will be to store, calibrate, and troubleshoot the QNRG+ equipment as required.

Indirect calorimetry (IC) provides objective measurements for clinicians to accurately assess nutritional support through the determination of a patient’s energy requirements over the course of critical illnesses. The monitoring requires expertise of both respiratory therapists and nutritional support teams. The essential role of a respiratory therapist during IC in mechanically ventilated patients include:

  • Responsibility for storage, calibration, and troubleshooting of IC equipment.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of mechanical ventilation when using IC in ventilated patients and their tolerance/stability.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team and coordinate with physicians and registered dietitians to improve accuracy of IC by enhancing patient conditions

As the Respiratory Therapist you will:

  • Conduct a 3 hour training session with customers on the use of the QNRG+ device for ventilated and spontaneously breathing individuals.
  • Participate in 1 hour kick off call with the customers and the Nutrition Specialist in order to provide an overview of the training and requirements.
  • Work with the sales team in addressing customer questions and inquiries.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of mechanical ventilation when using IC in ventilated patients and their tolerance/stability.
  • Responsible for storage, calibration, and troubleshooting of the QNRG+ equipment.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team and coordinate with physicians and registered dietitians to improve accuracy of the QNRG+ by enhancing patient conditions.

Requirements:

Licensed Respiratory Therapist

Experience working in a hospital environment primarily in ICU, NICU or Surgical Units

Minimum 3+ years relevant experience

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
