POSITION SUMMARY

We are actively looking for a Massage Therapy Instructor to join our Academic Department. The Instructor will work closely with the Academic team under the supervision of the Academic Manager. The position will be hybrid:

  • Teaching duties will be performed online through Google Classroom.
  • Practical exams and demonstrations will be conducted on-site in Downtown Calgary.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the massage therapy instructor are subject to change and additional duties may be assigned over time as the situations require. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare theoretical and practical instructions, including demonstrations of skills required in massage professions, and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology.
  • Develop outlines of instructional programs and studies, assemble materials to be presented, and review them with the academic team when needed.
  • Instruct students in subject areas, such as use, maintenance, and the safe operation of tools and equipment, codes, or regulations related to the Massage Therapy Program.
  • Assign homework to students and administer practical exams to evaluate the achievement of students in theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
  • Present subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques, such as lectures, discussions, or demonstrations.
  • Assist students with class assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts, respond to basic student questions, and initiate study groups in preparation for exams.
  • Maintain and update the students’ records of attendance, exam results, and grades, and report them to the academic department in a timely manner.
  • Provide feedback to the academic department regarding student progress and/or comprehension of course content.
  • Ensure the instructional materials are presented and learning objectives are accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Attend meetings and training per requirements of the academic team, and participate in faculty meetings, educational conferences, and professional development workshops.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum diploma in Massage Therapy program or in the related field of study from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum two (2) years of industry experience as an RMT in Alberta or any other province and be in good standing with a massage association.
  • Must have knowledge of the following courses, including Musculoskeletal Anatomy/Palpation, Massage Therapy & Practice, Clinical Assessment, Therapeutic Exercise, Hydrotherapy, Communication and Ethics, Advance Massage Therapy and Pharmacology.
  • Teaching experience and the ability to implement virtual classes will be considered assets.

SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of instructional theory, basic education principles, practices and methodologies, the developmental process, competency-based curricula, and general classroom and clinic practices.
  • Possesses good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, along with working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Tech-savvy with the functional knowledge of LMS, Google Classroom, and Microsoft Office Suites is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and to manage work assignments in a highly interpersonal contact environment.
