Profile:

The Controller (Contract) will plan, organize and recommend best practices to all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and develop departmental staff. The Controller will be expected to effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo.

Accountabilities:

  • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Coordinating activities of external auditors
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Assist with the budget process where applicable.
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Training and retaining skilled accounting staff
  • Support the company’s vision and policies regarding Health & Safety, Corporate Culture, and Environmental Management by displaying the appropriate behaviors and leadership towards meeting the company’s objectives in these areas.

Qualifications/Competencies:

Education and Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time as a Controller
  • CPA/MBA required
  • 5+ years in a management position

Technical Requirements

  • Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required
  • The ideal candidate will be highly-skilled with exceptional analytical, quantitative and social skills
  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
  • Outstanding skills in analyzing financial data and promptly generating accurate reports
  • Deep understanding of Consolidated Financial Statements and knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience with Audited Financial Statements
  • Ability to be self-motivated, work independently, as well as being part of a team
  • Ability to complete detailed analysis in accordance with established policies & procedures.
  • Driven to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Very strong analytical skills are a must.
  • Participate in and support a positive work environment.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to handle a high demand work environment and multiple duties.
  • Quick learner and able to juggle priorities to meet month end schedule.
  • Experience with SAP business One preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft office product application and spreadsheet efficiency.
